Housed within the former headquarters of the African National Congress at 28 Penton Street, London, the project will bring visibility to the British Anti-Apartheid Legacy.

Al-Jawad Pike are collaborating with Human Nature and a team of architects, landscape designers and ecologists to create a new sustainable neighbourhood on the former Phoenix Industrial Estate in Lewes, East Sussex. Al-Jawad Pike are developing two residential buildings within a masterplan comprising a range of new housing, work space and community uses, which are connected by green public space, communal gardens and allotments. The pre-planning design progress was exhibited at the Phoenix Project Design Festival in September, allowing the public to have their say on the proposals.

Our recently completed two-storey rear extension of a Victorian terraced house in South London has been photographed. The new volumes are formed in light coloured pigmented concrete block, which provide a subtle distinction from the main house.

Al-Jawad Pike has received planning permission to build a mews terrace of 11 new family homes on Daubeney Road, London – our second project for the Hackney Council Housing Supply Programme. The development will provide a mix of two and three bedroom dwellings with one fully accessible 4-bed house all of which are affordable or for social rent.

Al-Jawad Pike has completed a monolithic installation for the launch of three new fragrances by Miller Harris, in the Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane. Playing on the theme of ‘Hidden’, one of the three fragrances, the ruin-like walls create a meandering journey within the warehouse; with cut-outs and windows framing views and bringing visitors into chance encounter with one another.

Al-Jawad Pike has received planning permission to build 11 new homes on Mandeville Street, London – the first project of Hackney Council’s Housing Supply Programme which aims to provide around 475 new homes. The project is currently at tender stage and due to start on site in late 2018.

Al-Jawad Pike has recently completed a popup store for a fashion brand. The design concept takes inspiration from eroded sea shells and primitive stone structures – the arrangement of curving walls and arched thresholds form a carved interior space for the display of products, constructed in prefabricated translucent fibreglass.

A detail of our recently completed two-storey extension to a Victorian terraced house in West London. The new additions are formed from three interlocking masonry volumes, which house the new internal rooms of the building. At the lower level the kitchen and dining space intersect to provide a large skylight, the taller volume accommodates a study with external terrace and a family bathroom at first and second floor level.

Our recently completed extension in Stoke Newington has been photographed. The new full width kitchen-dining space features deep load bearing grey brick walls with oak joinery embedded within them. A profiled concrete lintel spans the walls framing a bespoke timber sliding window.

Al-Jawad Pike has won a commission to design 11 homes to replace a row of garages in Clapton, in the latest stage of Hackney Council’s Housing Supply Programme. The proposals for the site include a two-story row of staggered terraced homes with private gardens. The articulation of the terrace elevation allows the entrances of the homes to face towards Daubeney Road and generates a picturesque silhouette of monopitched roofs.

Al-Jawad Pike were longlisted as one of 10 practices for the RIBA’s Co-Living Forest Gate competition, London. The brief sought innovative ideas for a co-housing development, targeted towards people priced out of the London housing market.

The scheme proposes a collection of stilted shared houses and flats connected by elevated walkways and bridges, sitting on an inhabited topography of communal spaces.

Al-Jawad Pike features in Viabizzuno’s Report N°38, for their shelving and lighting fixture designs which were developed and realised as part of the store concept for Penhaligon’s London.

The bi-annual report also contains selected design collaborations between Viabizzuno and other architects including David Chipperfield, Peter Zumthor and David Adjaye.

Al-Jawad Pike has won a competition to design a new housing scheme on the first of two sites to be developed within Hackney’s new infill programme, launched at the end of 2016. The project will form a mews and townhouse block, with a communal courtyard, and private gardens and terraces. A planning application submission is anticipated in late 2017.

Completion of a new barber and perfume shop in London, for Penhaligon’s. The store features fumed oak and brushed brass shelving, grey painted wall panelling, terrazzo flooring and a large sink made of carrara marble.
